Colter Equestrian

Colter Equestrian is a unique hunter/jumper equestrian program located northwest of Columbus in Plain City, Ohio. We offer an exceptionally positive equine experience, with the ultimate goal of creating successful horse and rider partnerships. At Colter, we focus on understanding and developing both the rider and the horse. Each partner must possess strong fundamentals and appropriate skill levels. Our clients, in conjunction with our school horses or their own mounts, strive to attain goals that they have designed with our trainer. Rider and horse are taught to respect and communicate with the other while working toward their individual as well as mutual goals.

This uncommon approach to teaching, training, boarding and showing encompasses everything we do at Colter Equestrian. From the beginner rider just starting lessons to a show jumper looking to move up, each person and animal is treated with respect. We emphasize understanding the strengths and weaknesses of every participant in our programs. The uniqueness that every rider and horse brings to the riding experience is celebrated.  Each partner will have good days and bad days. But by working together, successful horse and rider partnerships are created and grown.

Carrie McCurrach

Owner/Head Trainer

Carrie McCurrach discovered her passion for horses and riding at an early age. Beginning with a summer day camp experience, her love for riding grew as she took lessons and started showing. She never looked back, continuing to ride, train and show throughout middle school, high school and college. She competed on Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) teams for 6 years during middle and high school. As a business and equine management student at Tiffin University, she showed on the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) hunt seat team for four years, 3 as a team captain. In 2017, Carrie was the first hunt seat rider from Tiffin to qualify and compete at IHSA Nationals.

She began her professional career with the establishment of Colter Equestrian, where she continues her passion for hunters and jumpers through her teaching, training, and show coaching. Carrie offers lessons for people of all ages and experiences from beginner through advanced. She has owned and trained several of her own horses, and many for clients.

Carrie's philosophy is simple: build on solid fundamentals, respect and challenge both horse and rider, and develop successful horse and rider partnerships. She invites riders of all backgrounds and experiences to join her.

Tracey McCurrach

Business Manager

Tracey McCurrach (aka Carrie’s mom) is the business manager for Colter Equestrian. Tracey shares her daughter’s lifelong love of horses. In her (much) younger days, she owned a purebred Morgan horse, Mr. Sunny Cobra, whom she adored. However, Tracey was not able to indulge her appreciation for horses until Carrie’s passion became evident, and she was able to get involved with horses again. In the interim, Tracey earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois and her MBA from Northwestern University. She has had a varied 35+ year professional career, primarily in small business and as an instructor at the college level. She is also proud to have survived raising Carrie and her two older brothers.
